Yes the tsunami was very horrible.
I remember hearing about it right away.
I wanted to know more about it, but from the people themselves.
First thing I checked was my guild messenger. Since I play a jp server game I worried alot about my guildies and community.
Luckily my guildies from elswordjp were ok. They told us that they were evacuating and that they were ok.
Feeling relief I logged on to elswordJp.
I could tell that the situation was very serious. There were a lot of players sitting in the square chatting away. Most of thoose people were people from other parts of japan who were worried about the affected areas. The affect areas were told to evacuate or simply their power was cut.
Later when the tsunamis were hitting. I logged onto my favorite nico nico live stream only to find the same sort of thing happen.
The majority of the streams that might have been gaming or singing were basically "report-in" rooms
in other words live stream rooms where people ould ask if everyone is ok. When someone joined the room they would say something like ""Hello are you alright?" Now this struck me odd. Why would people over the internet join random chatrooms and then start asking if everyone is alright? But really it's no real different than the countless facebook posts doing exactly the same thing.
In this case the nico community kept itself updated with various links images and identified deaths. I remember staying up till 4am just listening to various streams as well as watching news and discussing the damage done to japan.
It was very surreal experience talking with people struck by a natural disaster while being across the ocean in the safety of my home.
